The TRAINMEN Scholarship is an annual award presented in honor and memory of one of our fallen railroaders. It serves as a tribute to their dedication and the positive impact they had throughout their lives. The scholarship reflects our commitment to excellence, community and honoring legacy by supporting the educational pursuits of deserving individuals of railroad lineage.
"GPA Requirement"
Applicants must maintain minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
"Community Service Requirement"
Applicants must have a documented record of at least 20hrs of community service.
"Railroad Lineage"
Applicants must be able to establish their RR Lineage to a active or retired employee of (National Railroad Passenger Company).
"Grade Level Requirement"
Applicants must be a high school senior (College, and/ or Trade School) or higher to be eligible for this scholarship.
"Essay Requirement - UPDATED 1/1/26"
Applicants must submit a thoroughly researched and insightful Video Presentationon the topic of
“The Railroad as a Pathway to Dignity: The Role of Black Workers and Unions in Building Economic Opportunity.”
or
“Standing Together on the Rails: What Black Railroad Labor Teaches Us About Collective Strength".
Video Presentation should be business casual dress code and/ of 5min duration.
This is an opportunity not only to compete for a scholarship, but to tell a powerful story, honor a proud history, and reflect on how unity, labor, and leadership on the rails helped shape economic opportunity and dignity for generations.
The scholarship committee will evaluate applications based on academic performance, community service, and essay/video quality. The selected recipient will receive a monetary award to support their pursuit of higher education.
